Welcome to my neighborhood! Let me tell you a little about myself and how I came to be your vegan neighbor! I am a 42-year-old mother of two littles… but they are not so little now, as they are both in middle-school! When I started this site back in 2011, my kids were 1 & 3! This blog, however, IS my last little baby, one of which I hope will go off to produce & inspire great things in the world!
I have always been interested in cooking, especially baking. Over the years, I have worked as a baker in 3 different bakeries in my hometown of Athens, Georgia, 2 of which were totally vegan establishments. In my cooking, I try to use organic seasonal ingredients or local ingredients as much as possible. I really enjoy to garden but my current house really lacks a big enough space (& enough sunshine) for one… Hopefully my next place will allow me to grow a lot of my own veggies again!
Vegan food has a bad rap of being bland, boring or just gross… I’m here to show you that not only are those things not true, vegan food is delicious, great for your body, works towards a cleaner environment and also spares the suffering of animals! What could be better than that?!
I really enjoy making stuff that people are surprised can be made vegan. Sometimes I will be trying a new vegan recipe and sharing my good/bad results… Sometimes I will be posting a recipe that I myself created. Sometimes I will be “veganizing” a recipe that normally includes eggs, dairy or meat… Occasionally I will be sharing my funny/awkward learning experiences regarding cooking & raising vegan children in a non-vegan world.
One little change or replacement in a recipe may be just what the doctor ordered (sometimes quite literally!). I should use this moment to let you know I am neither (nor have I ever been) a doctor or a nutritionist. Let me also say that is IS possible to be an overweight or unhealthy vegan! My knowledge & experience comes from 22 years of living a vegan lifestyle. I’d like to think I have a pretty good grasp on this stuff!
I believe the key to good living starts with making good choices for your body that you feel proud about! Heres to the chef/baker in each one of us, vegan or not, I hope you enjoy my recipes!
